This is a digital download pdf pattern for a children’s shorts pattern. Age range 0-14yrs. 

The Handy Hansel shorts are loose fit, Bermuda length, with optional roomy pockets and a stretch/elasticated waist. They are designed for stretch fabrics. It is an ideal scrap buster.

There are two different pocket types, long and short.  You can also choose to just have coloured blocked sides with no pockets or a plain version. 

piping is another option  for a retro feel.

And there are 3 different types of waistbands, regular, foldover or an elasticated casing band.

It contains a full photo tutorial, a lookbook for inspiration and 2 pdf printing file options with layer features – A0 and A4/US letter sizes.

Suitable for a confident beginner and those with more experience.
It comes with a cottage licence.

This is the Slim/regular/toddler fit pattern. You can get the slim/toddler or Regular/toddler fits separately.

Fit information

These are a loose fit stretch shorts with an stretch/elasticated waist. They are Bermuda length (just above the knee)

There are also 2 different fits, slim and regular. This is based on measurement charts for slim and regular sized children and not in regard to how the shorts will look in terms of fit.

The toddler/baby has an ease of around 4-5 cm (1.5”-2”) around hips and waist.
The slim fit has ease of around 5cm (2”) around hips and waist
The regular fit has ease of around 6-7cm (2.3”-2.75”) around hips and waist.

Materials information:

You will need either a sewing machine with a stretch stitch or an overlocker/serger.

Suitable for 4 way stretch fabrics with a 30%+ each way such as Cotton lycra and French terry.

Bands should be constructed from a jersey knit with a 4 way stretch at 50% and good recovery.

The panel  pockets are ideal for showcasing fabrics, scrap busting and using fabric panels.

1) Plain shorts with regular waistband

2) Blocked side panel shorts with fold-over/yoga waistband. No pockets

3) Blocked side panels with short pockets. Elastic waistband

4) Blocked side panels with piping and long pockets. Fold-over waistband.

These are just 4 examples of the options that can be combined for this pattern. You could have a short and long pocket combination. A plain leg with a pocket leg, a colour blocked leg with a pocket leg.
